TAREA Profile
Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA), formerly TASEA (Tanzania Solar Energy Association) is a non-profit making, non-government Organisation that brings together actors in the renewable energy sectors to promote the accessibility and use of renewable energies in Tanzania. It was established in 2000 and registered by Ministry of home Affairs on 7th May, 2001 with registration number SO 10900. TAREA has more than 250 members. TAREA membership includes corporate (service providers/enterprises), professional (individuals), associate (institutions and individuals), student members and international members. Over the years, TAREA has been implementing promotional, capacity building activities, awareness creation, quality control and advocating for sound environment through dissemination of renewable energy technologies.
The objective of TAREA is to promote and advocate the increased use of Renewable Energy by developing an effective network of members and stalkholders, emphasising the need for quality and best practice throughout the sector.
TAREA strives for its aim by conducting serveral activities.
The activities of the Association include the following:
- Recruiting and training staff and members.
- Soliciting and managing funding and other resources to achieve objectives.
- Advisory service provision.
- Lobbying and advocacy on policy, legislation, regulations and standards in Renewable Energy.
- Conducting research, education and training.
- Utilising various media, events and networking activities to disseminate information, raise awareness and build capacity.
- Preparing publications and reports.
- Developing and managing an information resource facility.
- Undertaking other activities for the purpose of promoting the objectives of the Association.
