TAREA currently has 236 members. These are divided into different categories, which sometimes refer to the qualification of the member, but mainly help TAREA in attending individual need. For example, if there is a competition to find the best business in Tanzania, there is not necessarily much use in sending the information to students or foreign citizens.

TAREA membership categories are the following:

• Corporate Members: Companies and industry stakeholders, but also NGOs.
• Professional Members: Professional individuals, such as engineers or technicians, who work in the renewable energies sector.
• Associate Members: Any individual interested in TAREA's work may join here, even if there is no immediate connection to the sector.
• Student Members: Students, both from energy or engineering departments and others.
• International Members: Individuals or companies from abroad.

Our members are further divided into two internal categories: Active and inactive members. Active members include all who have paid their annual subscription fee for the respective year. Only active members are eligible for membership in the association's leading committees and are receiving the full benefits of TAREA membership.
