The Tanzania Solar Energy Association is an international membership organisation with 113 solar energy members standing for the recognition of the excellence of solar energy technologies. It was officially registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2001. TASEA's mission is to facilitate the use and integration of solar energy by utilities, electric service providers, and their customers.

TASEA has two branches in Mwanza and Arusha/Kilimanjaro. It is also trying to establish the Zanzibar Solar Energy Association (ZASEA).

MISSION STATEMENT

TASEA's mission is to develop and promote the rational use of solar energy in Tanzania through its members by coordinating provision of relevant information, knowledge, skills, and resources geared towards community socio-economic development and environment sound practices.

To achieve this mission, TASEA strives to meet the following goals:

1. Provide tools to utilities and electric service providers on the use and integration of solar.
2. Foster business to business networking.
3. Share information on solar electric technologies, applications, and programs.
4. Report on policies, regulations, and legislation.

TASEA has gained a focal position as the major source of information on issues related to renewable energies in Tanzania by bringing together relevant stakeholders and their efforts. The strength of TASEA lies in its ability to bring together renewable energy stakeholders to share ideas and experiences as well as establishing a framework for the development of renewable energy technologies.

Tax reform on renewable energy equipment is a typical example of TASEA initiatives as an alternative among others taken for wide dissemination of renewable energy technologies.
