TASEA's mission is to develop and promote rational use of solar energy through its members by coordinating provision of relevant information, knowledge, skills, and resources geared towards community socio-economic development and environment sound practices.
TASEA is a professional body whose primary objective is to promote and advance the science and application of solar energy in Tanzania through both direct forms (thermal, photovoltaic, photochemistry) and indirect forms (wind, biomass, small hydro, tidal).

Mission & Objective

Traditional fossil fuels sources such as coal, oil and gasoline have revolutionized the way in which humans live today, however the environmental and health costs of such energy sources have repeatedly been shown to be extremely high. From pollution such as smog and acid rain to deforestation, and oil spills to name a few, the effects on the environment are enormous.

Fossil fuels are non renewable. Once the supply of these fuels that is already within the Earth is depleted, there will be no more coal, no more oil, and no more gas. As the eventual depletion of fossil fuels nears, the financial costs of using these fuels will continue to rise. The combination of health, environmental and economic costs necessitate the need for source of energy that is healthier, cleaner, cheaper and renewable; that is ‘Solar Energy’.

Solar energy technologies have great potential to benefit our nation. They can diversify our energy supply, reduce our dependence on imported fuels, improve the quality of the air we breathe, offset greenhouse gas emissions, and stimulate our economy by creating jobs in the manufacturing, selling and installation of solar energy systems.

In order to achieve its objectives, the Association has embarked on implementation of the following activities:

Research and education on solar energy

  • Encouraging research and education in solar energy

Information and knowledge dissemination

  • Dissemination of knowledge and information in the field of solar energy

  • Create an organization to provide expert advice on solar energy matters, and assist in recommending standards and codes in the application of the technology and related fields

  • Making provision for building a solar energy information database through technical publications and other means

Solar energy market development

  • Creation of business opportunities in Tanzania for entrepreneurs interested in the application of solar energy and related technologies

  • Providing assistance to practicing solar energy technologists by arranging contacts and other facilities relating to professional advancement

Networking and Information Sharing

  • Providing a forum for discussion on the development and dissemination of new solar energy technologies, through conferences, workshops, symposia, and exhibitions

  • Providing a forum for young solar energy technologists looking for practical real-world advice about carrier development

Development of solar energy standards and codes of practice for Tanzania

  • Encouraging high standards of practice with design, manufacture, installation, usage and marketing of solar energy equipment

  • Encouraging high standards of professional conduct in solar energy technologies

Project development and implementation

  • Formulating and undertaking implementation of solar energy programmes and projects in Tanzania through its members and participants in other projects and bodies
