About...
..the program:
In 2009/2010, the DTP conducted a 'Volunteer Ecological Year' for two Tanzanians within the framework 'FOJ Schleswig-Holstein'. It enabled two Tanzanian students to go abroad for one year and to work in Germany. It was labeled as a truly great experience for both of them and the DTP planned already a new intake. However, financial issues forced us to suspend the program for one year. Now, the German NGO "Arbeiskreis Arbeit & Leben / Hamburg" offers a similar scholarship for 1-2 Tanzanians. They will work in a German business dealing with renewable energy, located in Hamburg. Since our partners have already an extended range of experiences with voluntary service, individual and comprehensive care can be assured. Volunary Service means no money for work, but we offer a full-scale scholarship.
..the aim:
Our aim is to support intercultural exchange and to disseminate knowledge about renewable energy. Furthermore, the AK Arbeit & Leben focuses intensivly on education in terms of politics, culture and of course working. Therefore, this voluntary service is meant to be an oppertunity to learn by livining & working in a different country. Thus, the voluntary service does not end with your return to Germany: Back in Tanzania, we want our volunteers to spread their newly-gained knowlegde, to share their experiences & ideas. Moreover, as for now voluntary service is mostly an one-way road, with European people coming to Africa. We want this to change!
..the actors:
The Deutsch-Tansanische-Partnerschaft (= German-Tanzanian Partnership) is an German non-government-organization, which conducts environmental projects & voluntary services in Tanzania since 1998. Some of its members contributed to the foundation of the former Tanzania Solar Energy Association (now TAREA) in 2001 as well as the Zanzibarian counterpart, the Zanzibar Solar Energy Association. Since two years, sixteen German volunteers are send to Tanzania within the 'worldwards'-program of the German goverment.
The DTP and its former volunteers (called FUGE) will care for the volunteers in Germany and handle the local coordination.
