Solar Demonstration Kits

Dar Es Salaam / 23rd September 2010

With the help of the German Embassy in Tanzania, which greatly supported us in terms of finance, TAREA managed to buy nine Solar-Demonstration-Kits. These sets are supposed to visualize and enhance village presentations by TAREA and its associates. Village presentations are essential for raising awareness in rural areas and are conducted by volunteers in tight cooperation with local employees.

Our aim is to lay the foundation of word-of-mouth propaganda, which conveys the idea from village to village. By visualizing the presentation with professional equipment, the effect onto people can be greatly enhanced. A Solar Demonstration Kit dsc00232contains following items:

  • 1x Solar panel (crystalline) with 85W
  • 2x Solar batteries with 84Ah / 12V
  • 1x Solar regulator with 6A / 12V
  • 1x Inverter with 180W / 12V
  • 1x TV Set with 35W
  • 4x Energy saving lamps (AC as well as DC)
  • 1x Installation frame
  • 1x Set of cables and fixing materials
  • 1x Set with Information leaflets

It allows people to have a close look at technical issues, which are hard to understand without proper mockups. Even though this might be only a small scale project, it definitely will have an outcome, as uses of Solar Energy can easily improve people’s life without needing any kind of infrastructure. For example, women can greatly benefit by using solar cookers instead of high-pollution ovens. The great variety of Solar Energy-applications provides solutions for almost every part of daily life. By this project, we want to convey this idea also into remote areas of Tanzania. Furthermore, the effect will increase exponentially as soon as word-to-mouth propaganda has been spread out.

Being part of German development aid, it is indispensable for the project to be sustainable as well as self-sufficient. We are sure to meet these goals, as the project was prepared in accordance with the 'National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty' of 2005. The total cost was beared by the German Embassy at 2/3 and TAREA at 1/3.

The following organizations recieved a 'Solar Demonstration Kit' on behalf of TAREAdsc00231:
  • Mafinga Lutheran Vocational Centre (Mafinga)
  • Tujijenge Africa (Kyela)
  • KAKUTE (Arusha)
  • TAREA Mwanza
  • REDCOT (DSM)
  • ZAZEA (Zanzibar)
  • Solar Africa (Zanzibar)
  • Njombe Electronics Centre (Njombe)
  • RENERG (Mbinga)

We are confident to get the ball running by using new solar demonstration kits. We are very glad for the great help of the German Embassy and we can assure, that we do our very best to get the most out of it.
