Weltwaerts Volunteer Program
Since 2004, TAREA's German partner German-Tanzanian Partnership (DTP) has sent an increasing number of young volunteers to Tanzania in order to learn about renewable energies by working in different hosting places all over Tanzania.
The volunteers, most of them just having finished school, have been working with very different applications of renewable energies. Some have created awareness on energy-efficient stoves, some were working with women group, jatropha fuels or wind turbines. Always, volunteers have also taught in schools, and one of them has always worked for TAREA at the head office in Dar es Salaam.
The volunteers stay in Tanzania for a whole year, arriving in August. This enables them to gain detailed knowledge of some sustainable energy applications, to understand Tanzanian culture and to communicate their experiences to friends in Germany.
Since 2008, the project is part of the "worldwards"-Programme of the German government. Since then, a total of 16 volunteers is hosted by TAREA.
This year, the volunteers are working at the following stations across the country:
- Mafinga Lutheran Vocational Training Centre, Iringa region
- Tujijenge Microfinance Kyela, Mbeya region
- Kakute Ltd., Arusha region
- TAREA, Dar es Salaam
- TAREA Mwanza
- Solarafrica.network, Matemwe, Zanzibar
- Solarafrica.network, Pete, Zanzibar
